How is Christian recovery different from traditional recovery?
At Pacific Hills, our Christian recovery program emphasizes building a relationship with God. Christian recovery is intended to guide clients to "know and experience" God, who can become an integral part of their recovery process. Oftentimes, addicts have lost their relationship with a higher power. Our non-denominational Christian recovery program is Christ-centered, whereas our Traditional program stresses a recovery process based on God as the individual may understand him (as presented by Alcoholics Anonymous). Both programs use the basis of the 12 Steps.

Clients who choose our Christian recovery program begin their day with daily devotions and follow the 12 Steps of Spiritual recovery via The Life Recovery Bible and Celebrate Recovery's Participant Guide workbook. Our Christian recovery program's clients attend chapel and off-site Celebrate Recovery meetings in addition to off-site Alcoholics Anonymous 12 Step meetings. Each day of our Christian recovery program's clients ends with daily reflections, and on Sunday, our clients attend local church services. Our Christian Recovery program is taught by Christian counselors who are also in recovery, many of them credentialed and ordained ministers. While our Traditional program's clients seek sponsors within Alcoholics Anonymous, the Christian recovery program's clients search for sponsors in both Alcoholics Anonymous and Celebrate Recovery organizations once they return home, which enhances the alumni's recovery experience and possible success.
At Pacific Hills, our Traditional program focuses on the original 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, and our Christian recovery program goes another step farther and links the 12 Steps to related Bible text. e.g. Step 2 states: "Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity." Related Biblical text states: "For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose." (Phil. 2:13)
Clients who choose our Christian recovery program progress through treatment utilizing God and his wisdom to help make themselves whole again. Clients say that when they lived in bondage due to their addiction, they had lost all sense of self-respect. After beginning treatment in our Christian recovery program, they start to open up their hearts and minds and "let God in" and realize they can overcome the addiction with God's help. It takes courage to see ourselves in a new way, but through God, it is possible to pursue freedom from our addictions and start a new life. Clients who participate in our Christian recovery program begin to visualize God's constant presence and therefore are more capable of making the right decisions. Each day, the clients who complete treatment at our Christian recovery program learn to thank God for all he is doing to help them through recovery, as well as asking him for continued strength to live life without addiction.
