Drug treatment facilities

Drug treatment facilities

Are all drug treatment facilities the same? And, what expectations should I have if I attend one of these drug treatment facilities?

Pacific Hills' maintains various drug treatment facilities that offer distinct levels of care. Residential Inpatient treatment is a four -week program that presents the primary care level of treatment. Once Residential is completed, the client can transfer to another of Pacific Hills' drug treatment facilities, Transitional Care, which extends treatment by another four weeks. Transitional Care is less structured but continues to educate the client about life in recovery.

Another of Pacific Hills' drug treatment facilities is their Intensive Outpatient program, which replicates the Residential Inpatient treatment at a slower pace with clients receiving a minimum of 12 hours of group and individual therapy per week for six weeks.

Drug treatment facilities offer programs that significantly vary from one center to another, yet the public's perception of treatment seems to be standardized, one of extremely high expectations. Many people believe that addicts can free themselves from addiction without attending drug treatment facilities or they believe that because a person has completed programs at drug treatment facilities, the addict can be permanently free from drugs. Both of these beliefs are false and assume that people use drugs or alcohol simply because of lack of willpower or flaws in their character.

Within the past 20 years, drug treatment facilities have benefited as a more sophisticated understanding of addiction has emerged and this is helping to clarify the disconnect between the public's expectations and reality:

  1. Addiction is a brain disease that causes changes in brain structure and function, resulting in uncontrollable drug craving and use.
  2. Addiction is a multifaceted disease causing profound effects on a person's physical, emotional and mental health.
  3. Addiction is a treatable chronic disease. The changes in brain function and structure that occur with drug use persist long after drug use is stopped. "Cure" is not necessarily an attainable goal, however treatment at one of Pacific Hills' drug treatment facilities can successfully address the multiple facets of addiction.

What should you expect from drug treatment facilities? Most programs treating addiction can help people reduce or stop using illegal or dangerous drugs, which should greatly improve the addict's family life, employment, social relationships, etc.

And, at Pacific Hills' drug treatment facilities, the clients are taught how to achieve long-term control to avoid relapse. This newly gained control helps establish more stable life situations. At our drug treatment facilities, not only is the addiction treated, but mental health disorders (co-occurring) are addressed and the client meets with a psychiatrist for assessment and treatment, which may include medications for some clients. Also, Pacific Hills' drug treatment facilities integrate exercise and nutrition education into the client's plan for his life in recovery. The whole person is considered, and each client's strategy is tailored for his individual needs and characteristics. The staff at Pacific Hills' drug treatment facilities believes that there is no single type of treatment appropriate for everyone. Our drug treatment facilities emphasize the importance of obtaining a sponsor and attending regular Alcoholics Anonymous 12-Step meetings.

Clients attending treatment at Pacific Hills' drug treatment facilities learn to change their vocabulary to reflect unrealistic versus realistic expectations.

Drug Rehab and Treatment

"The staff we have here is incredible.  We have people here who have been here since the beginning and that is very unusual in this line of business.  It's a very tumultuous type of business but we have very committed clinicians and counselors that believe in what we are doing.  They understand that we are unique here."
