Amphetamine Abuse
There are many unfortunate people around us today who have, whether intentionally or not, gotten addicted to amphetamines, especially meth, apart from other prescription medicines. Since amphetamines are often sold over the counter, it is very easy for those developing a habit, or those already in the habit to have easy access to it. It is used by doctors to treat various medical cases, related to weight and appetite loss, hyperactivity, and related disorders. It acts as both a stimulant, as well as an appetite suppressant, and increases the amount of chemicals in the bodies of those who ingest it, as well as increases the heart rate and blood pressure, among other things.
People start getting addicted to amphetamines, commonly referred to as speed, to experience a sense of euphoria. They do not realize that amphetamines are dangerous, and often fatal. Some people try to ape their peers, who may be able to ingest and deal with the more of the substance, while other who abuse this prescription medicine are often lonely and depressed, and subsequently seek the thrills this high gives them. The ‘low’ they experience after recovering from the temporary effects of the drug is so severe it has led many to take their own lives, which is avoidable at all costs.
The effects of too much of amphetamine in the system result in decaying and rotting oral health, severe depression and paranoia, anxiety, stomach upsets, loss of appetite and even anorexia, high blood pressure are all extremely unpleasant and avoidable. Once addicted to amphetamines, it is extremely difficult getting rid of the habit, and monitored rehabilitation is necessary. Withdrawal symptoms are also severe, and include loss of memory, oversleeping, paranoia and confusion, irritability and even depression.
